Our Athens-Limestone CEO class had the opportunity to learn from Larry Waye about the essentials of building a successful business plan and why planning ahead is so important for entrepreneurs.

Drawing from his own entrepreneurial journey, Larry shared insights on building businesses from the ground up and the role of business incubation in helping entrepreneurs develop their ideas, strengthen their businesses, and boost local economic growth.

During the lesson, students explored why a business plan is essential before launching a business and learned about its six major components:

Students also learned the importance of setting SMART goals — Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound — and why successful entrepreneurs must be willing to adapt their plans as circumstances change while staying committed to their vision.

One message that stood out was, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” Students were also challenged to reflect on their own expectations, personal standards, and what they are willing to tolerate — recognizing how these choices influence their decisions and future success.
