Athens-Limestone CEO class got to visit the Associated Growers Co-op Cotton Gin and learn more about the cotton industry from Mr. Billy Sickler. 🌱🚜
During the visit, we learned how farmers and growers can accomplish more by working together. Mr. Billy shared how the gin has grown over time, increasing production with a new building and finding ways to process even more cotton. We learned about the process of cleaning cotton, removing the seeds, and turning it into 500-pound bales ready to be sold!
Our students got an inside look at the business side of the cotton industry. They learned about farmer contracts, cottonseed sales, warehouse expenses, and the cost of operating a business. We also learned that producing and selling cotton involves much more than picking and washing it. From utility costs to managing expenses and generating enough income, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes to keep a business running successfully!
We are incredibly grateful to Mr. Billy for welcoming our Athens-Limestone CEO class, sharing his knowledge, and giving us a better understanding of the cotton industry and what it takes to own and operate a successful business! 🌾✨
