The Athens-Limestone CEO class had the opportunity to meet with Jaquata Thompson at the Athens Career Center, located on the campus of Athens State University. The Athens Career Center is a program through Workforce Alabama, Alabama’s statewide workforce-development system. It helps connect job seekers, students, employers, and training programs.
Students learned about the need for a Career Center in Athens as it is a one-stop career and employment center where people can get help with:
* Finding jobs and connecting with employers
* Creating résumés and preparing for interviews
* Career counseling and career assessments
* Job-training programs and certifications
* Financial assistance for qualifying education/training
* Employer recruiting and workforce-training assistance
Mrs. Thompson shared valuable information about resources available to those interested in starting or growing a business, including grants and other helpful programs.
One of the most impactful lessons from our visit was the importance of word-of-mouth. Students learned that building positive relationships and creating a strong reputation can be one of the most powerful tools for any career or business. A positive experience can lead to recommendations, new connections, and future opportunities.
